LINES ARE NOW CLOSED!
We have a winner for the Ice Road 2011 Competition!
Everyone at Truckfest is thrilled that the winner of this chance of a lifetime is an avid visitor to Truckfest and follower of the History Channel's Ice Road Trucker series. Neil Hawker from Chard in Somerset is a regular visitor to Truckfest South West and never imagined for one moment that he would win the coveted trip to the Dalton Highway. The Ice Road trip all started with a phone call to Harry McDonald, CEO of Carlile Transportation Systems, who was asked one simple question - "Would you play host to the winner of a competition at Truckfest?" he immediately said yes. Truckfest already had a close association with Ice Road Truckers who have exhibited at the event for the past 3 years and also sponsored one of our truck competitions. Truckfest has also played host to Ice Road Trucker guests Rick Yemm, Alex Debogorski and Lisa Kelly.
Harry McDonald explained that he couldn't be more specific about the timing for the trip other than late February or early March 2012 but that he would make sure that our winner was suitably attired for the dramatic temperatures. The competition which has ran throughout the series of Truckfest events in 2011 culminated on Sunday 11th September at Truckfest Original in Newark which was the first home of Truckfest. The competition attracted thousands of hopeful contestants. The winner was drawn on Sunday and Bob Limming from Truckfest phoned the lucky winner who was away in Germany driving his truck when he heard the news. His first comment to Bob was that it must be a joke as he has never won anything in his life! With Bob replying "You have now". The next question was "Do you want to make the trip?" there was no hesitation in Neil's answer, a most emphatic "Yes" and of course lets not forget the 20 runners up who will all receive box sets of series 1 to 3 of the Ice Road Truckers signed by Lisa Kelly and Alex Debogorski. As well as the box set for runners up, Truckfest are also offering them a weekend camping ticket to the Truckfest of their choice, and of course next year this includes our first Irish event. The full list of runners up can be found on the Truckfest website www.truckfest.co.uk
The great news is that Commercial Motor and Truck & Driver will be going along to document Neil's Alaskan adventure. Will Shiers who earlier this year interviewed Lisa Kelly on the M25 when she visited the UK for the first time as a guest at Truckfest South West is packing his long johns and will experience the worst that mother nature can throw at them. It goes without saying that we will invite Neil up to Truckfest at Peterborough to tell us all about it.
Thanks to all who took part and congratulations to Neil and the runners up.
